The word ‘meze’ and it’s variations are found in all cuisines that were once under the Ottoman Empire. The word means ‘taste, flavour, snack, relish’ and that’s exactly how we see our meze menu at Safran Restaurant on the Central Coast.
Mezes are more than just an ‘entrée’ or ‘appetiser’ and are more about an experience. Traditionally, mezes are accompanied by the Turkish aniseed spirit – Raki. You’re encouraged to sit back, relax, slowly enjoy a selection of meze and sip your Raki whilst savouring conversation with your dining companions. At Safran, your mezes can form your whole meal, or you may start with meze and move onto a main meal. Or take the easy way and select our Meze Banquet where 9 mezes are served to you and your guests over four courses.
Now that Summer is on its way, it’s a perfect time to experience our weekend Lunch Wine and Meze menu – select any two meze and a glass of wine or beer for $28.
